Peel Regional Police said officers from the 11 Division Community Incident Response Team began an investigation on Oct. 5 at about 5 p.m. in the Martiz Dr.-Derry Rd. W. area over an alleged Cannabis Control Act violation involving a vehicle.
Police said officers allegedly found suspected drugs inside the vehicle during the investigation, and a subsequent search located a loaded 9mm Glock handgun equipped with a prohibited 15-round magazine.

They said officers also allegedly ended up seizing more than 79 g of suspected drugs, including fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine and crystal meth, as well as $1,260 in cash.
“Investigations like this demonstrate the importance of proactive enforcement in addressing the dangers posed by illegal firearms and drug trafficking,” Peel’s Deputy Chief Marc Andrews said in a statement. “By taking a loaded handgun and suspected illicit drugs, including fentanyl, off our streets, our officers are helping disrupt criminal activity and reduce the potential for harm.
“We remain committed to holding offenders accountable and protecting the safety of everyone who lives and works in Peel Region.”
