Collin Sexton could be on track to play in Lakers' season opener

The Los Angeles Lakers had players in and out of their lineup throughout the preseason, and as a result, they weren't able to build the type of chemistry and continuity that they were looking to create.

In addition to men such as Luka Doncic, Austin Reaves, Ziaire Williams, Walker Kessler, Adou Thiero and Cameron Carr missing some action, guard Collin Sexton didn't play in any of the team's five preseason games. He is expected to be a major part of the team, presumably as a sixth man and instant offense player, and he has been dealing with a lower-leg injury.

But Sexton was a full participant in practice on Monday, two days before the Lakers' regular-season opener versus the Golden State Warriors, per Jovan Buha. Thiero and Carr were modified participants, and they didn't take part in the team's scrimmage.

Sexton is slated to improve a Lakers bench that was 29th in points last season. He is an electrifying bucket-getter who can handle the ball, speed up the pace, get others involved and hit from the outside.

Last season, he averaged 15.4 points on 48.5% field-goal shooting and 40.1% from 3-point range in 23.7 minutes a game. He said on Monday that he "felt good" at practice and that, while he has been dealing with some lower-leg tightness and his legs "felt a little heavy," practice went well.

For his career, Sexton averages 18.3 points and 3.6 assists in 29 minutes per game while shooting 47.2% overall and 38.9% from downtown. It remains to be seen if he will play on Wednesday.
