The defending state champion Sacred Heart Academy field hockey team will open postseason play Friday in the Second Region Tournament at Christian Academy.

The Valkyries will face Eastern at 6 p.m. Friday in a regional semifinal.
Sacred Heart is one of four teams to earn No. 1 seeds in regional play, joining North Oldham (First Region), Assumption (Third Region) and Manual (Fourth Region).
Sacred Heart beat CAL 3-1 in last year’s state final.
Regional champions and runners-up will advance to the state tournament that will start on Saturday, Oct. 24. The state final is set for 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at CAL.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association voted in July to end sponsorship of the the field hockey championship after this season. Jefferson County athletics directors are planning to administer the sport – including regional and state tournaments - starting in 2027.

First Region
At North Oldham
Friday, Oct. 16 – Oldham County vs. Ballard, 6 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 18 – Oldham County-Ballard winner vs. North Oldham, 2 p.m.; South Oldham vs. Kentucky Country Day, 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 20 – Final, 7 p.m.
Second Region
At Christian Academy
Friday, Oct. 16 – Eastern vs. Sacred Heart, 6 p.m.; Highlands Latin vs. Christian Academy, 7:30 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 19 – Final, 7 p.m.
Third Region
At Male
Saturday, Oct. 17 – Male vs. Mercy, 4 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 18 – Male-Mercy winner vs. Assumption, 1 p.m.; Atherton vs. Collegiate, 3 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 20 – Final, 6 p.m.
Fourth Region
At Manual
Monday, Oct. 19 – Pleasure Ridge Park vs. Manual, 5 p.m.; Francis Parker vs. Holy Cross, 6:30 p.m.
