After the game, Detroit coach Todd McLellan was talking about the critical role DeBrincat plays for his team.
“Critical is a really good word for him,” McLellan said. “Yeah, that shows you exactly how important he is to our team, our organization.
“We need him.”
They got him. In the midst of a lengthy run of failure, frustration, and downright bumbling by this organization, they finally got one right.
DeBrincat Signs Front-Loaded Contract With Red Wings
The contract is front-loaded. DeBrincat will earn $15 million next season. The amount goes down to $12.93 million from years two through six and $11.35 million in Year 7.
The deal also includes a complete no-trade clause for the first four seasons. DeBrincat gets a 10-team trade list in Year 5, an 18-team modified no-trade clause in Year 6, and a 13-team modified no-trade clause in Year 7.

DeBrincat leads the club in scoring this season with eight points. He scored a team-leading 41 goals last season, equaling his career high.
Michigander DeBrincat has been adamant all along that he wouldn’t leave Detroit as long as the club paid him market value on his new contract. He has lived up to that word.
“I love it here,” DeBrincat said at the end of last season, discussing his future. “This is my home. I’ve loved every bit of playing here.
“I think this is definitely a team I want to be a part of for a long time, and I think everyone knows that.”
In a rut in which captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade, franchise icon Steve Yzerman was removed as GM, and RFA defenseman Simon Edvinsson remains unsigned, the Red Wings desperately needed a win.
DeBrincat, as he often does on the ice, has delivered for them.
