Brendan Allen submits Christian Leroy Duncan in UFC Vegas 122 main event

The UFC octagon was back at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Allen vs. Duncan event. middleweights contenders Brendan Allen and Christian Leroy Duncan headlined the 12-bout fight card.

Allen entered the fight ranked No. 4 and riding a three-fight winning streak. A win would solidify his spot in the Top 5. Duncan stepped in the cage ranked No. 10 having won his last five fights.

Duncan started fast, taking the fight to Allen. They clinched and worked for position along the cage. Duncan delivered knees to the legs of Allen and mixed in right hands to the body. Allen secured a takedown and worked to take Duncan’s back. Duncan powered back to his feet but remained in Allen’s grasps. Duncan turned Allen and pressed him against the cage. Allen changed the position and they separated. Duncan pressured Allen. He connected with a combination. Allen landed an elbow on the inside. Duncan responded with a kick to the body. Duncan came out throwing teep kicks to start the second. He unintentionally poked Allen in the eye while measuring distance. Allen was given time to recover and a point was taken from Duncan.

Allen pressured Duncan when action resumed. Duncan delivered a knee to the body. Allen continued to press forward. They clinched in the center of the octagon. Allen secured a body lock takedown. He moved to side control midway through the frame. Duncan rolled and Allen stayed with him and looked to lock on an arm-triangle choke. Duncan defended it and Allen went to landing elbows and short punches. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-8 for Allen.

Allen immediately went for a takedown to start the third. Ducan scrambled out and gained top position. He worked to take Allen’s back. Allen reversed him. They scrambled and Duncan ended up on top with a reversal. The round ended with Duncan in dominant position. MMAWeekly score the round 10-9 for Duncan.

They exchanged jabs to start the fourth frame. Duncan circled on the outside keeping his distance. Allen stepped in the pocket with a left hook that landed. Duncan connected with a left hand. Allen continued to pressure Duncan. Allen connected with a right hand that made Duncan retreat. Duncan responded with punches moments later. Duncan got through Allen’s guard with a combination. Duncan picked up his output with combinations. MMAWeekly score the round 10-9 for Allen.

They met in the middle for the final round. Duncan landed his jab. He delivered a combination and barely missed with a spinning wheel kick. Allen closed the distance and worked to get the fight to the ground. He pulled Duncan to the ground and took his back. Allen locked on a rear-naked choke. Duncan was forced to tap out.

The official time of the stoppage was 2:46 of the fifth round.
