Spence makes Inter debut: how the former Tottenham defender fared

Djed Spence finally made his Inter debut in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Parma, and showed a few glimpses of what he can offer.

The former Tottenham defender came on in the 73rd minute with the result long since settled. Inter signed him in the summer for €30m plus €5m in bonuses, and Spurs kept a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

He was greeted with a huge ovation from the San Siro crowd and slotted in on the right flank.

Spence’s Inter debut: how he fared

The Englishman was keen to get involved straight away, though he lost his first one-on-one duel. He soon made amends by standing up a cross for Lautaro Martinez, whose header landed on the roof of the net. He also showed his change of pace on a few occasions against a Parma side that had stopped pushing long before.

We gave him a 6 in our player ratings, the same mark as Calciomercato.com, which saw the outing as a chance for him to settle in at San Siro. The real test will be whether he can push for a starting spot as Inter’s busy run of fixtures begins with Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday.
