‘Jerry Jones 2.0,’ ‘Not In Their DNA’ — NFL Fans Divided As Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie Makes Expectations Clear After Cam Jurgens Trade

Following franchise legend Lane Johnson’s retirement and the trade of Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens, concerns have surfaced about whether the Philadelphia Eagles are quietly preparing for a rebuilding phase.

In light of those changes, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie pushed back against the speculation, but his remarks didn’t exactly calm the swell of panic in the fanbase.
Jeffrey Lurie Dismisses Eagles’ Rebuilding Concerns
The Eagles currently rank 21th in PFN’s Offensive Line Impact rating, earning a grade of 70.3.
Following Jurgens’ departure and Johnson’s retirement, Philadelphia has lost two key contributors on its offensive line, raising questions about how the franchise plans to be competitive moving forward.
However, Lurie appeared confident when addressing the team’s objectives, stating that Philadelphia remains committed to competing for major honors and maintaining its position among the conference’s top contenders.
“We’ve got a great roster. We have a deep team. It’s unfortunate with Lane Johnson retiring, but this was going to be his last year. He’s one of the greatest players I’ve ever seen play right tackle. Great guy, serious concerns about mental health, and I think we’ve got to respect that.
“But we are gung-ho to win big and win our division first and go from there. So we couldn’t be more excited. We were 2-2 when we won the Super Bowl two years ago, and we’re 2-2.”

Despite Lurie’s confidence, Eagles fans remained divided over the team’s direction.
“1] He’s blowing smoke so ticket sales stay high or 2] There’s moves in the works that elevate this team moving forward,” one fan wrote.
“I’m not buying the Eagles tanking narrative. Not in their DNA. But I don’t think they are any better than anyone else in the division this year. Battle of attrition,” NY Post’s Ryan Dunleavy remarked.
“So glad to be on the right side of history with this team and FO,” one fan said.
Another was a little bit skeptical as well. “Alright, Jerry Jones 2.0,” they wrote.
“FINALLY heard from Jeffrey Lurie, I see. We haven’t had a losing year in the regular season in 5 years (literally), but how we look today is ALL his fault!!! I’m blaming him idc,” one Eagles fan added.

Jurgens joined Philadelphia as a second-round selection in 2022 and became the team’s starting center following the retirement of future Hall of Famer Jason Kelce. He quickly established himself as one of the NFL’s top players at the position and made history during the Eagles’ Super Bowl season by becoming the youngest Philadelphia center to earn Pro Bowl honors since 1953.
Jurgens signed a four-year, $68 million contract extension in 2025. However, his time with the Eagles was also affected by health concerns that required him to undergo surgery during the offseason.
Jurgens entered concussion protocol after reporting symptoms earlier in the week. Following his trade to Baltimore, the center is expected to miss the Ravens’ primetime Week 5 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
Meanwhile, trading Jurgens has given Philadelphia additional draft capital, allowing general manager Howie Roseman greater flexibility to strengthen the roster in the coming years.
The Eagles are positioned to hold 16 draft picks over the next two years, including two first-round selections and two second-round picks in the 2028 NFL Draft.
