The Green Bay Packers had to quickly address their linebacker situation after Edgerrin Cooper was ruled out for the rest of the season Monday. Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff responded by casting a wide net on the free agent market, bringing in five linebackers for workouts as they search for another option at the position.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter provided the names of all five linebackers who worked out for the Packers as the team explores options to reinforce the position.

Cooper’s injury proved far more serious than initially feared following Sunday’s 17-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cooper went down with a non contact injury and had to leave Raymond James Stadium on a medical cart. Further testing delivered the worst possible outcome for Green Bay, confirming that Cooper suffered a torn Achilles.

His impact stood out even after Green Bay made a major splash by acquiring star edge rusher Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys during training camp in 2025.
The 24-year-old recorded 118 total tackles last season, emerging as one of the Packers’ most effective run defenders. He produced at that level under former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who left Green Bay after the 2025 season to become the Miami Dolphins’ head coach in 2026.

Through four starts this season, Cooper recorded 30 tackles, including 18 solo stops, before his season came to an end. He also made his presence felt near the line of scrimmage with six tackles for loss. Cooper added another impact play in coverage during Sunday’s game, intercepting a pass before the injury forced him out of the matchup.
