SANDRA SMITH: I walked into Fox News 19 years ago. The people and viewers changed my life

· Fox News

Nineteen years ago today, I walked through the doors at 1211 and hit the ground running — covering some of the biggest stories of our lifetimes, from the 2008 financial crisis to presidential elections that reshaped the country.

What followed has been an intense, exciting and incredibly rewarding career at Fox News.

I’ve had the privilege of moderating presidential primary debates, conducting the first live interview inside the Vice President’s Ceremonial Office, interviewing Supreme Court justices, presidents, military leaders and Wall Street CEOs, and reporting live from the trading floors of New York and Chicago.

I’ve also been fortunate to help launch some great shows — "Outnumbered" in 2014, the relaunch of "America’s Newsroom" in 2018, and "America Reports with John Roberts and Sandra Smith" in 2021.

Today, those shows are a driving force behind Fox News’ No. 1 position in daytime — a testament to the extraordinary teams that show up every day ready to fight for the story.

And somewhere along the way, I took on my most important role of all: becoming a mom, twice. Balancing motherhood and this career has taught me more about discipline, sacrifice and perspective than anything else ever could.

But after 19 years, it’s not the stories or the interviews that stand out most.

It’s the people.

Fox has become a second family. I’m incredibly grateful to Lachlan, Suzanne and Jay for their leadership and for continuing to give me the opportunity to grow, take on new challenges and do work that I genuinely love.

And after all these years, what drives me is still the same thing that drove me on day one: the viewers. They deserve someone who is prepared, asks the hard questions and never stops working for them.

Nineteen years in, I’m still here. Still fighting for the story. Still loving the work.
