Fantasy Football: 10 best waiver wire targets for Week 5
· Yahoo Sports
The first quarter of the regular season is over as fantasy football managers keep a keen eye on the waiver wire entering Week 5.
There were plenty of fireworks throughout the league during the Week 4 matchups, and there were a number of injuries that could prop some available players up into a higher position for the upcoming week.
Visit grenadier.co.za for more information.
With Week 5 now upon us, the byes will begin, which means managers have another obstacle to overcome. Teams on a bye in Week 5 include the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs.
We'll update any changes as more information comes out throughout the day Monday and Tuesday. We will be looking at players rostered in fewer than 50% of Yahoo! leagues at each position.
Here's a look at the 10 best waiver-wire targets for Week 5 in fantasy football:
Quarterback
Jameis Winston, New York Giants (4% rostered)
Winston gave his classic performance on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, throwing for 250 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in a wild home win. He's the QB9 entering Monday night. Winston has been up and down ever since he took over for the injured Jaxson Dart, but the Giants get a Washington Commanders defense that has given up the second-most points above expectation this season. He's a fine streamer for those looking for some upside.
Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers (10% rostered)
Those in need of a streamer this week could look to Rodgers. Though he's not in his prime anymore, he's put together two QB1 performances in each of the last two weeks. He's also thrown three touchdown passes in each of his last two games. Now, he gets an Indianapolis Colts defense that has been vulnerable against the pass this season.
Running Back
Tank Bigsby, Philadelphia Eagles (28% rostered)
Bigsby once again finds himself on this list after an injury befell Saquon Barkley. It isn't clear how severe the hamstring injury is for Barkley, but it was enough to keep him out of basically the entire game once it happened. Bigsby appears to be the in line for the bulk of the work between the tackles while Will Shipley will work more in the passing game. He left Sunday's game early, too, so he will be someone to monitor. At any rate, he's worth picking up if available.
Emmanuel Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (49% rostered)
Wilson barley makes the cut here in terms of percent rostered. However, he was the clear next-man-up with rookie Jadarian Price inactive due to a chest/rib injury. Price is now on the injured reserve list so we could see an extended look at Wilson. It should be noted that Zach Charbonnet (knee) returned to practice last week while the Seahawks are working out Joe Mixon. Still, Wilson should be valuable enough for a spot start after posting a 21-81-1 rushing line to go along with a 3-39-1 receiving line, making him the RB6 on the week entering Monday night.
Mike Washington Jr., Las Vegas Raiders (35% rostered)
From a usage standpoint, the backfield still belongs to Ashton Jeanty, who recorded a 58% running back rush share and 17% target share. With that said, Washington has been seeing an increase in workload lately, and Jeanty seems to get banged up every week before eventually returning to the game. Washington has the explosive ability to start in a dire pinch while remaining as one of the top handcuffs in the league.
Wide Receiver
Tyreek Hill, Free Agent (22% rostered)
Some fantasy teams may not have the advantage of rostering Hill right now because they need the bench spots. It seems the former All-Pro is set to make his return and sign with a team, possibly as soon as this week. There will be a ramp-up period, and he is coming back from a major leg injury. But if his landing spot is good enough, Hill will have some value.
Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills (6% rostered)
As DJ Moore reaggravated his shoulder injury, it opened the path for Coleman to shine. And that he did. Coleman posted a 6-116-1 receiving line in the loss against the New England Patriots, good for a 23% target share and a WR1 finish on the week. Coleman has had his issues coming through since he was drafted, but if he can maintain over a 20% target share, good things could be on the horizon.
Dohnte Meyers, Cincinnati Bengals (1% rostered)
Last year, Meyers was playing in the CFL. Now, he's on the list of waive-wire targets. Both Ja'Marr Chase (concussion) and Tee Higgins (adductor) are in jeopardy of missing the Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins. If that's the case, Meyers could be near the top of the pecking order after posting seven receptions for 82 yards on nine targets, good for a 17% target share.
Tight End
Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (2% rostered)
Though Puka Nacua came back stronger than ever from his injury, Higbee still put together a strong performance. He ran the third-most routes on the offense behind Nacua and Davante Adams while posting five receptions for 67 yards on six targets. It's hard to trust the Rams tight ends when both Nacua and Adams are on the field but with a matchup coming against the Buffalo Bills, it could be a nice spot for a shootout.
Defense/Special Teams
Dallas Cowboys (15% rostered)
This is more about the matchup than anything. The Cowboys don't have the best defense in the league by any stretch, but they do get to take on a Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense that is likely going to start undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels under center in Baker Mayfield's absence. Daniels was sacked three times and hit seven times in the 17-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.
