Nikola Jokic intends to sign a historic contract extension with the Denver Nuggets next year, but even so, he is still operating with a keen sense of urgency entering the 2026-27 campaign. Although the future Hall of Fame center likes to stay under the radar, he knows what people are saying. “This team has missed its window for another championship.” Jokic is doing his part to change the narrative, and that includes building morale and chemistry off the court.

The Nuggets are integrating several new players to their culture, and with such roster turnover, team bonding becomes incredibly important. A couple days after welcoming in Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders, Denver decided to return the favor and attend the Buffaloes’ home game versus No. 12 Texas Tech.

There was a time when Jokic did not even know who Prime Time was, and now he is taking in the action at Folsom Field. He has been in the NBA long enough to recognize the value of leadership. Sanders has not produced positive results since he lost Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders to the NFL, but he still exudes a strong motivating presence. While there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance, the all-time great athlete seemingly resonated with the Nuggets.

Denver hopes to witness a Colorado upset in Boulder on Saturday night. Given how this team performed in the playoffs last season, any additional inspiration should help.

It goes both ways, though. Nikola Jokic is an NBA Finals MVP whose mere presence should catch players’ attention.
