‘Dabo (Swinney) Should Be Ashamed,’ ‘He Made This Bed’ — CFB World Shows Clemson HC No Mercy As Tigers Get Mauled in Blowout Loss to No. 4 Miami

There was nowhere for Dabo Swinney to hide as his Clemson Tigers were caged by the Miami Hurricanes in what served as a stark reminder of the current state of the program. The unbeaten No. 4 Miami bullied Clemson all the way to a 41-13 rout at Memorial Stadium.

As the Tigers were left to lick their wounds, criticism of Swinney was swift and pointed, with fans and analysts questioning the direction of a program that had been held up as the gold standard in years past.

CFB World Takes Aim at Clemson HC Dabo Swinney

The Tigers fell to 3-2 after the deflating loss to the high-flying Hurricanes, and social media quickly turned its attention toward Swinney, Clemson’s direction, and whether the longtime coach can get the program back among the sport’s elite.

After what was the fourth-worst loss for the Tigers under their head coach, fans were quick to ask a pressing question: Is it time for Swinney to step aside?

“Dabo’s mad, but not mad enough,” wrote one Clemson fan page. “He made this bed with his roster management. Two games against elite rosters, both ending in lopsided losses. Pretty easy to see why. It’s about the Jimmy’s & the Joe’s.”

Another Clemson fan account vented its frustrations, writing, “Honestly, Dabo should be ashamed of what this program has become. I’m tired of his ‘We’ve won a lot’ BS. This is a huge falloff.

“To go from one of the top programs in the country to a team that is lucky to get more than two TDs per game is a huge disappointment.”

Pack Power 247 editor Cory Smith remarked, “This isn’t just a change of the guard in the ACC. This is an absolute [expletive]-whooping with no mercy from Mario Cristobal and Miami for Dabo Swinney and the corpse that remains of the program.”

One Clemson reporter chimed in, “The fact that Dabo chose this over getting a QB from the portal just shows me that he doesn’t give a [expletive].”

Meanwhile, this fan decided to add some perspective, writing, “I understand Clemson might want to move on from Dabo Swinney, but I hope we all remember he made that program nationally relevant.

“Are we really going to say a coach like Dabo, who led Clemson to two national titles, isn’t good enough for the program?”

One Miami analyst kept it simple, writing, “Bye bye, Dabo!”

The numbers certainly gave Swinney’s critics more than enough ammunition to work with.
The Tigers managed just 55 rushing yards on 31 attempts tonight, averaging a mere 1.8 yards per carry against Miami’s defense.

Clemson quarterback Tait Reynolds, who ranks #161 in the nation with a PFN QB Impact Score of 60.6, threw for 295 yards, but the Tigers never developed enough balance offensively to consistently threaten the Hurricanes.

Clemson entered the matchup ranked #131 in the nation with a PFN Team Offense Impact Score of 61.0 and a Defense Impact Score of 76.3 (#65).

Then there’s the case of the self-inflicted mistakes. Clemson committed 10 penalties for 91 yards, including a costly false start near the Miami goal line on third-and-1.

Swinney’s reaction to that misstep quickly went viral and served as a fitting image for how the night unfolded.

Miami was also simply far more explosive and ready to go for the jugular. The Hurricanes averaged 6.8 yards per play compared with Clemson’s 4.7, finishing with 419 total yards while repeatedly producing chunk plays.
