Rodgers was annoyed with McCarthy for not calling the play quickly, and McCarthy was angered by Rodgers’s reaction. Amid a clear disconnect, former Super Bowl-winning OT Mitchell Schwartz offered a suggestion to avoid such spats.

Mitchell Schwartz Confused Over Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy Spat and Offers an Easy Solution

Rodgers and McCarthy exchanged expletives and dirty looks over their disagreement. The= Steelers quarterback has expressed anger over certain play-calling decisions and had an episode today waiting for a play call.

Schwartz offered the solution that Rodgers can simply override the play call with one of his own if he is so disappointed in it.

“I still don’t get why Rodgers doesn’t just override McCarthy and call his own plays in certain situations,” said Schwartz.

Quarterbacks have the freedom to audible out of certain play calls, but aren’t usually calling plays themselves. Rodgers loves the chance to adjust things at the line to get the look he wants, but to do that, he needs the play call early, which is why he was annoyed.

Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP and is in his 22nd NFL season. He’s seen just about every look a defense can possibly throw at him and has the capability to call plays that he wants for himself.

When a fan countered that Schwartz is suggesting Rodgers is overriding certain plays and calling his own, Schwartz pointed to Rodgers’s frequent displeasure with the playcalling.

“Then why does he complain about play calling publicly and have rage sessions at McCarthy like that? Would he just, ya know, say F it and call whatever he wants and save all the theatrics?” said Schwartz.

This is Rodgers’ final season in the NFL, and he is trying to go out with a bang. He’s far from his MVP form and is the 30th-ranked quarterback in PFN’s QB Impact Metric.

But he’s trying to give what he’s got left to get the Steelers a playoff win that has eluded them for a while now.

Rodgers needs to improve if the Steelers want to make a run this season. Whether that’s with him calling plays or with McCarthy, the offense needs to be better.
