San Francisco 49ers: Promote Veteran WR With Over 9,000 Yards

· Yahoo Sports

Injuries continue to plague the San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver room. Mike Evans suffered a rib strain in the second quarter of Week 2 after taking a hit to the torso, struggling to breathe, and was carted off the field. Evans is considered day-to-day and did not participate in Wednesday’s or Thursday’s practices, raising questions about his Week 4 availability. In addition, Pro Bowl special teamer KhaDarel Hodge suffered a knee injury and has also not practiced.

If Evans and Hodge can’t play, the 49ers would have only three healthy receivers on the active roster.

According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN NFL Nation, the 49ers have promoted Brandin Cooks from the practice squad to the active roster. Cooks signed with San Francisco’s practice squad on September 22, but was not elevated to the game-day roster for Week 3. In addition, the front office signed Malik Turner to the practice squad and released KhaDarel Hodge with an injury settlement.
