The Denver Nuggets had a special guest in training camp on Thursday, as NFL legend Deion Sanders paid them a visit.

Sanders is quite familiar with Denver as the coach of Colorado, and it is only logical that he supports the Nuggets.

The two-time Super Bowl champion gave a speech before entertaining several questions from the players. DeMar DeRozan asked him about managing two sports, as Sanders famously played in the NFL and the MLB simultaneously for several years. He then revealed that he “loved basketball” as well, and he nearly played in the NBA when he was with the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Braves.

“They were gonna let me play for the (Atlanta) Hawks one time, just to play three sports. Then they didn’t allow me to do it. But I wanted to do it. Because I told the general manager, I can give you 10 (points) just out of respect,” said Sanders, eliciting laughs from the Nuggets.

“Give me one steal, that’s two (points). I’m going to the free-throw line, and I will hit one, and I got six on my own.”

At the very least, Sanders surely had the confidence to play in the NBA. His speed and power would have been great assets. Imagine him running on the break with Dominique Wilkins.

Perhaps he can live his wish to play in the NBA vicariously through the Nuggets, who are looking to reclaim the championship they last won in 2023.

It is worth noting that the Denver Broncos tried to sign Sanders in 1995, with then-coach Mike Shanahan even picking up the eight-time All-Pro at the airport and personally driving him around the city. Sanders, however, chose to sign with the Dallas Cowboys.
