After their shocking 0-2 series upset against the New York Liberty, Kayla McBride suggested that Napheesa Collier was set to leave the Minnesota Lynx.

The Lynx were swept by the Liberty despite being the #1 seed in the WNBA playoffs, marking one of the biggest upsets in WNBA playoff history.
And given the changes that many expect to occur this summer, the expectation is that this loss will be the final game Collier plays with the Lynx.

Speaking after the game, Minnesota Lynx star Kayla McBride explained the embrace between her, Napheesa Collier, and Courtney Williams.
McBride noted that it was a moment the three stars shared together ahead of what could be a summer of change, and they just wanted to celebrate their bond and their impact on the franchise together.
“I mean, we’ve been through a lot together. I think the biggest thing with this group, like these two up here, there’s just a lot of unconditional love,” McBride told reporters.
“We’ve been through a lot of things together, on and off the court. We understand, and we love each other. We got to each other at special times in our careers.
“What we’ve created in Minnesota – our culture – when people come into it, they love being a part of what we’ve been able to grow. That’s not lost on me.
“These are two really, really special people. Just people, before anything, so that embrace is about the people that are sitting next to me, my sisters, the people that I love, that will be in my life forever. That’s what that is. It’s not even about basketball at that point.”
Collier will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, and the expectation is that she will be leaving the Lynx and signing with a new team.
Both McBride and Williams are set to stay with the Lynx, as they are under contract beyond this season. The moment between the three stars appeared to be a goodbye, and McBride’s post-game comments seemingly confirm that.
Collier has been with the Lynx since 2019, when she was picked sixth overall in the WNBA Draft that year. Since then, she has attained success on the individual and team front.
Over the years, Collier became a five-time WNBA All-Star, made three All-WNBA First Teams and an All-WNBA Second Team, along with winning the 2024 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award.
While she never managed to lead the Lynx to a championship, she did win the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup with them, earning Cup MVP honours in the process.
Collier will leave behind a stellar legacy with the Lynx, being regarded as one of the franchise’s all-time great stars, and will eventually have her number retired.
