HS Standout: Daniel RB Kingsten Bibb

CENTRAL, S.C. (WSPA) - Few players in South Carolina have made a bigger impact on the ground through the first month of the high school football season than Kingsten Bibb.
The D.W. Daniel High School sophomore running back and wide receiver has been the driving force behind the Lions' undefeated start, rushing for 558 yards and 10 touchdowns on 65 carries through four games.

The 5-foot-10, 165-pound playmaker is averaging 8.6 yards per carry and 139.5 rushing yards per game while ranking No. 5 in South Carolina and No. 1 in SCHSL Class AAA with 64 total points scored.
Bibb's production has made him one of the state's most dangerous offensive threats.
He erupted for 186 yards and four touchdowns against Powdersville, rushed for 176 yards and two scores against Wren and added 154 yards and two touchdowns against Greenville. He has also contributed 10 receptions for 84 yards, giving him 642 total yards from scrimmage.
For Daniel head coach Chris Stone, Bibb's emergence began with an unexpected position change during his freshman season.
"King was supposed to be a JV wide receiver last year," said Stone. "We had a couple people missing and put him at running back. We got to see him do a few things and thought, 'That's kind of special right there.'"
What started as a temporary move quickly revealed a player capable of changing games with every touch.
"He's an encourager. He's a guy that's going to push people to be better," said Stone. "His hard work, his love for his teammates and the way he approaches every day make him special."
Bibb said the foundation of his success is built long before Friday nights arrive.
"You got to put in the work at home every day, every night," said Bibb. "That's the key."
Part of that work centers on improving the athletic traits that allow him to separate from defenders.
"I do a lot of hip drills and focus on stability," said Bibb. "It helps me be more explosive and make sharper cuts on the field."
That explosiveness has translated into a string of big plays. Whether it's breaking through the line of scrimmage or turning a small crease into a long touchdown run, Bibb's vision and quick decision-making have become trademarks of his game.
"When I go to cut, I try to size him up," said Bibb. "When I see his leverage change, I go the opposite way."
Stone said Bibb's ability to win one-on-one matchups often turns solid runs into explosive gains.
"Kingston is very rarely going to be tackled on the first hit," said Stone. "When he gets into those one-on-one situations, that's where he can create big plays."
While the statistics continue to climb, Bibb already has ambitious goals in mind for the remainder of the season.
"One of my goals from the start was 1,500 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns," said Bibb. "I think I'm on track to get it."
Bibb's athletic talents extend beyond football. A three-sport athlete, he also competes in basketball and baseball for Daniel. He plays point guard on the basketball court and is expected to return to baseball after previously playing center field and shortstop.
"I've been playing basketball since I was five and baseball since I was seven," said Bibb.
The sophomore said each sport has helped shape his competitive mindset.
"Never back down," said Bibb. "Always get up and keep fighting."
Stone believes Bibb's mentality is one of the biggest reasons for his success. The coach even pointed to the running back's preference for wearing an older-style helmet despite having newer options available.
"I think Kingston just wants to have that blue-collar mentality, hard worker," said Stone.
