Rangers put DH Joc Pederson on IL, move pitcher Quantrill to 60-day list and end his season

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left wrist fracture that has kept him out of the lineup for the AL West leaders since Sept. 13.

The move was only retroactive to Sept. 19, but that would allow for Pederson to be eligible for the start of the playoffs next week if the Rangers make the postseason.
Right-hander Cal Quantrill, who has been one of their most versatile pitchers, won't be available for the playoffs after he was transferred from the 60-day IL. Quantrill (9-5) had been put on the 15-day IL because of right lat tightness Sunday, a day after he exited following only four batters and 12 pitches against Toronto.
Before its game against the New York Mets to open its last homestand, Texas also activated infielder/outfielder Michael Helman from the 60-day injured list and right-handed reliever Peyton Gray from the 15-day IL. Left-hander Adam Macko was optioned to the rookie-level Rangers in Arizona.
Pederson, who has been the primary leadoff hitter this season, was struck by a pitch on the left wrist on Sept. 12 at Arizona. He has hit .235 with 26 homers and 53 RBIs in 136 games.
