Here are this week's nominees for The Arizona Republic's boy’s and girl’s athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath. Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports. Vote for the top selection in each of our polls below. Voting will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday and winners will be announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Arizona Republic on Saturday. Here are this week's nominees for week fo Sept. 14-19, 2026, followed by poll (scroll down on poll to vote):
Girls
Amaya Moreno, Gilbert Campo Verde, flag football, Sr.: She was 17-for-20 with 458 yards and 10 touchdowns in a 69-0 win over Tempe McClintock on Sept. 17, tying the Arizona state record for most passing touchdowns in a single game.
Leila Stafford, Tucson Catalina Foothills, swimming, Sr.: She won the 500 free at the Canyon del Oro Classic on Sept. 19 in 4:59.69, setting the state-leading time in the event. She also won the 100 free in 51.89 seconds, moving up to No. 2 in the state.
Natalia Fox, Peoria Liberty, golf, Jr.: She won the PUSD Girls' District Tournament at Sun City Lakes West on Sept. 19, shooting 1-under 70 to lead a field of 20 golfers.
