Dak Prescott sets Dallas Cowboys franchise record, passing Tony Romo

The quarterback threw four touchdown passes in Sunday’s 37-20 victory over the Washington Commanders, bringing his career total to 249 and surpassing Tony Romo for the franchise lead.

It was another significant milestone for Prescott, who has spent his entire 11-year career in Dallas.

Prescott passes Tony Romo in spectacular fashion

Prescott entered Sunday needing four touchdown passes to surpass Romo’s record of 248. He reached the mark with a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, giving him sole possession of the Cowboys’ franchise record.

The accomplishment was especially fitting because Prescott and Lamb have developed one of the most productive quarterback-receiver connections in Cowboys history. The fourth-quarter touchdown was their second scoring connection of the afternoon and the 37th touchdown Prescott has thrown to Lamb, the most of any receiver in Prescott’s career.

Prescott also connected with Jake Ferguson twice for touchdowns, giving him four scoring passes on the afternoon. The performance helped Dallas bounce back from its disappointing Week 1 loss to the New York Giants while improving to 1-1 on the season.

Passing Romo is another milestone in what has become an increasingly dominant statistical résumé for Prescott in Dallas.

Prescott already holds the franchise records for passing yards and completions, and Sunday added touchdown passes to that list. He has now thrown 249 regular-season touchdown passes for the Cowboys, surpassing the total Romo accumulated across 156 games from 2006 through 2016.

There is still one major Cowboys quarterback record Prescott has not claimed: regular-season victories. Prescott entered Sunday with 83 wins, while Roger Staubach finished with 85 and Troy Aikman holds the franchise record with 94.

For now, though, Prescott has another piece of Cowboys history to his name. After taking over for Romo as Dallas’ starting quarterback in 2016, Prescott has now surpassed him in the franchise’s all-time touchdown passing record.
