Washington rookie believes Commanders have a 'very dangerous defense'
· Yahoo Sports
The Washington Commanders gave the reigning NFC East champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, a run for their money in the season opener. Although they ultimately lost, rookie linebacker Joshua Josephs still believes the Commanders have a dangerous defense as they head into Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.
“Just watching film collectively, I feel like we’re a very dangerous defense,” Josephs said. “I believe we [are] gonna be a dominant defense, and I believe we showed a little glimpse of it. But, still, there’s things throughout the game here and there that we need to clean up and things that we definitely could have been better with. But, overall, I just know there’s constant work that we have to put in to continuously grow and become the best team, or the best defense, that we can be.”

Both Washington and the Cowboys enter this game 0-1 after losing to an NFC East rival in their season openers. That makes this game critical for both franchises as they try to get back to the playoffs. Starting 0-2 on the season and in your division is generally a recipe for missing the playoffs, as there has only been one team in the past 30 years that started the season 0-2 with both losses being division losses and still ended up making the playoffs; that was the Chicago Bears last season.
So, if Washington wants to keep its playoff chances alive, this is a must-win game, even though it's only the second week of the season. Josephs said that while they need to clean up on defense after the loss to the Eagles, everyone on the Commanders’ defense has a competitive edge that sets the team apart.
“Just cleaning up some of the things we did from last week and playing the way that we know we can play,” Josephs said. “I believe everybody on our defense is winners, love to win, and has that competitive edge about them that just sets them apart from other people. So, just playing our game, trusting our keys and the preparation we put in and then just working.”
