Steph Curry wants to be 'lifer' with Golden State Warriors

After eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron James opted for free agency, quickly becoming the prize of the 2026 offseason. While multiple teams made their pitches to the future Hall of Famer, James made his decision to join Jaylen Brown, Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid in Philadelphia with the Sixers. Following a whirlwind summer, headlined by James' free agency, Steph Curry was recently asked about his former Olympic teammate's decision.

In a recent interview with CNBC, Curry was asked if he's thought about testing free agency like James. The two-time Most Valuable Player quickly shot the idea down, saying he would like to be a "lifer" with the Golden State Warriors.

Curry is currently set to enter the final season of his contract with the Warriors at age 38-years-old. Curry could become a free agent at the end of the 2026-27 NBA season. On August 29, Curry became eligible for a new contract extension. Curry could sign a two-year, $136.7 million contract extension with the Warriors.

Curry has played all 17-seasons of his NBA career with the Warriors, winning four championships in Golden State along with winning a pair of NBA MVP awards, being named to 12 All-Star teams and 11 All-NBA teams.

Both Curry and Draymond Green are the longest active current players to play for one franchise at 17 and 14 seasons with the Warriors. Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets) and Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns) are next on the list with 12 seasons each.
