Padres Rookie Sets MLB Record With Historic Power Outburst

The 20-year-old rookie made MLB history with his two home runs on Wednesday, powering the San Diego Padres to a 9-3 rout of the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. He became the youngest catcher in MLB history and the youngest Padres player ever with a multi-homer game.

Even more impressively, the long balls were the first of Salas' MLB career. Batting ninth, he smashed a solo shot off Mason Adams in the top of the second and a two-run blast off Nick Frasso in the top of the fifth.
Salas recently debuted on Sept. 2 and struggled at the plate prior to Wednesday, managing just one hit in his first 17 at-bats. Fortunately for him, a trip to Coors Field against the Rockies' poor pitching staff helped give his bat a spark.
The young backstop is trying to help San Diego make the playoffs. The Padres hold a 3.5-game lead for the last wild card spot in the NL entering play on Thursday.
