KINSELLA: Macklemore, dropped from Ed Sheeran tour, should be despised

For those who were blessedly unaware of Benjamin Hammond Haggerty’s existence, like me, a refresher.

Haggerty performs (checks notes) rap music under the name “Macklemore.” He grew up in a Seattle neighbourhood where homes routinely fetch around $2 million (Cdn.). He went to one high school where the median household income was about $200,000 a year.
Coincidentally, the high school Macklemore attended has been sued at least twice for Jewish students being terrorized by others. According to one of the lawsuits, 20 students chased a female student, surrounded her and starting screaming threats and antisemitic epithets.
The lawsuit came with photos of the school, replete with swastikas on walls, and accounts of students declaring: “Hitler’s plan should have worked,” “I hate Jews” and urging the student to kill herself for being Jewish. She was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Out of this impoverished, tolerant environment came Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, who took the name “Macklemore” from an art project he did back in his high school, which was seemingly around the time that his brain seemingly stopped developing.
One of his songs is called Wing$ , about some running shoes his mother bought for him:
“At school I was so cool.
I knew that I couldn’t crease ‘em.
My friends couldn’t afford ‘em”
He’s no Dylan
It’s not Highway 61 -era Bob Dylan, we know. But Haggerty wasn’t done expressing himself, unfortunately. He had a thing or two to say about politics, as well.
One song he wrote is called F**ked Up . It is about things that Macklemore considers “f**cked up,” which is, well, you know.
Some tidbits: “white supremacy is still in charge” in Gaza, he raps. “Killin’ Palestinian kids” is happening because of an “oligarchy and men that control us all” – golly, who could he be referring to? – getting tax breaks and making groceries expensive.
“How you think Israel gets money for the best tanks?” Macklemore yodels, adding that a vast conspiracy is at work: “That’s your money, and yes, it’s all connected. And they controllin’ your feed, the information that they censor! Blockin’ hashtags, can’t say Free Palestine.”
Jews getting rich off other peoples’ misery, globalist conspiracies led by Jews, billions being sent to “Israel’s safes,” as Macklemore puts it. That’s what the Jewish state is preoccupied with, he declares in the song: “More blood, more weapons, more money, more oppression.”
Look, I’ve been writing about neo-Nazis for several decades. I’ve published a few bestselling books about groups ranging from the Ku Klux Klan to the Aryan Nations. I’ve won awards for my work. Trust me when I say that Macklemore’s oeuvre is classic Hitler-freak cross-burner stuff. You know: Jews are monsters, Jews kill the innocent, Jews profit off war, and on and on. It’s crap that is straight out of the antisemitic forgery The Protocols of the Elders of Zion , except with a 4/4 beat.
Long list of controversy
Macklemore hasn’t been content to merely express his contempt for Jews on his songs alone, however. In between bouts in pricey rehabs for drug addiction, Macklemore has appeared onstage as an orthodox Jew, complete with an oversized hooked nose, a characterization that was super-popular with the Nazis, as well. When a controversy exploded over his antisemitic “costume,” he wrote on his website that “I acknowledge how the costume could, within a context of stereotyping, be ascribed to a Jewish caricature.”
Right. After that incident, alone, one would think that British mega-star Ed Sheeran would keep his distance from Macklemore. But, no. Sheeran has cheerfully appeared on musical collaborations with Macklemore, and has described the rapper as his “brother.”
So, it is now rather hard to believe Sheeran when he expressed surprise that his brother turned his slot on Sheeran’s Loop Tour into something straight out of Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will . At MetLife Stadium in New Jersey a few days ago, Macklemore said: “A big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place is so that I could stand up in stadiums like this and say two words that are very, very dear to my heart: Free Palestine.”
Jews were in attendance and were appalled. The proverbial hit the fan. Sheeran was obliged to swiftly remove Macklemore from the tour.
Sheeran blames stadium owners
In the aftermath, Macklemore (worth an estimated $30 million) bleated that he’d lost “money, brand deals, sponsorships” — and, although he didn’t say who was to blame for that, we can all hazard a guess. Sheeran, for his part, blamed Macklemore’s departure on owners of the stadiums where he’d be playing — the most vocal of whom, Robert Kraft, is a Jew.
Anyway, that’s the story of Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, a.k.a. “Macklemore.” He’s a bigot and a creep, and he richly deserves all the criticism coming his way.
Ed Sheeran, meanwhile, deserves to learn a hard lesson: When you invite haters onto your stage, Eddie, don’t be shocked when they, you know, express hate.
