‘Give the defense credit’ – Deshaun Watson speaks on his performance in opening game against the Jacksonville Jaguars

Deshaun Watson’s return to the NFL after nearly two years away did not go as planned.

The 30-year-old veteran threw for 205 yards and had an interception early in the game, which caused a lot of anger among fans.

The first quarter was dismal from Watson, as he nearly gave away two consecutive interceptions. Although he got a little better as the game progressed, the Cleveland Browns stumbled to a 0-1 start after their 34-10 defeat.

He was sacked five times throughout the night, and although he looked rusty, the O-line was not up to the mark.

Watson speaks on bad plays during the game

After two quarters, the Browns were 0-24 down, and Watson had not done anything to force a comeback.

There were just bad plays and fumbles throughout the game, but Watson believes that is part of the process.

“Bad plays are going to happen all the time,” said Watson in his press conference.

“You look around the league, everyone throws interceptions, everyone makes bad plays, you gotta give defense credit, he made a good play on that.

“Even though I got knocked off my platform, I thought I got it over him and he reached up and grabbed it, so you gotta move to the next play and move forward and try to put something positive on the next drive and we weren’t able to do that,” said Monken on the first interception.

Prior to the game, former NFL coach Rex Ryan had blasted the organisation for their decision to give Watson the QB 1 spot.

These questions remained after his first game, and coach Monken gave his stance on what he felt about Watson’s performances and future as the starter.

It seems likely that he will once again start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will be hoping to turn things around and put on a big performance to help the Browns and help him win some hearts in Cleveland.
