A new era of Pittsburgh football will begin on Sunday afternoon when the Steelers meet the Falcons at Acrisure Stadium.

Mike McCarthy will look to lead Pittsburgh to a victory in his first official game as the team's head coach. Steelers fans are hoping that his connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who previously played under McCarthy with the Packers, will provide an offensive boost during the 2026 season.

Pittsburgh will face a backup QB in its first game of the new campaign, as Falcons starter Tua Tagovailoa was ruled out with an oblique injury. Despite dealing with back spasms on Saturday, Cooper Rush will be the starter.

1:50 p.m. — Aaron Rodgers' deep ball to Roman Wilson is incomplete, but a flag for pass interference will give the Steelers a chance to put more points on the board.

End of first quarter: Falcons 7, Steelers 3

1:40 p.m. — Bijan Robinson snags the pass from Cooper Rush and rumbles 23 yards to the end zone. A costly turnover for the Steelers.

1:35 p.m. — Jaylen Warren catches a short pass from Aaron Rodgers, but the ball pops out of his hands. The Falcons recover the fumble, and they are already in field goal range.

1:30 p.m. — Cooper Rush had a window to throw to Kyle Pitts Sr. down the seam for a big gain, but Jalen Ramsey closes the gap and knocks the ball down. Another Falcons drive ends with a punt.

1:20 p.m. — Aaron Rodgers is unable to connect with Rico Dowdle on third down, but the Steelers put Chris Boswell in position to drill a 43-yard field goal. Pittsburgh takes an early 3-0 lead.

1:10 p.m. — The Steelers go three-and-out on their first drive of the game, but they get a quick stop against the Falcons' offensive unit. Alex Highsmith sacks Cooper Rush on third down, forcing a punt.

1:05 p.m. — Here we go. Steelers wide receiver Kaden Wetjen brings the opening kickoff to Pittsburgh's 38-yard line.

12:50 p.m. — With Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. stuck on the sideline, Cooper Rush will make the 17th start of his career on Sunday.
