According to the latest report from Bounces, author Ben Rothenberg confirmed that President Donald Trump will not attend the 2026 US Open men’s final on Sunday unless drastic last-minute changes occur in his plans for the day.

The Sunday final is set to feature reigning French Open champion Alexander Zverev against the home favorite and American No. 1 Ben Shelton at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium.
This year, however, the POTUS is in Ireland and even visited the Irish Open on Saturday. Mr. Trump is expected to be meeting with Irish leaders on Sunday as well, which can most certainly rule out his appearance at Sunday’s men’s final.
Ben Shelton has been the star of the US Open so far, taking down defending champ Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals and fellow American Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals. Zverev, on the other hand, is facing his first top 10 opponent in Sunday’s final.
What is at stake for Ben Shelton and Alexander Zverev in the US Open final?
In a Grand Slam final for the first time in his career, Ben Shelton is looking to win a maiden Major title. He is also looking to become the first American man since Andy Roddick to win a Grand Slam and break a 2-decade drought for US men’s tennis. The 23-year-old has already risen to a career-high World No. 4 spot in the live ATP rankings.
On the other hand, Alexander Zverev is looking to win the second Grand Slam title of his career and second for the season. The World No. 2 had previously won the French Open. A title in New York would also make him the man with the most Slam titles in 2026. Other than him, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have won one each, the former at the Australian Open and the latter at Wimbledon. Regardless of the result on Sunday, Zverev will remain World No. 2 on Monday.
