New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart is heading into a memorable FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup final with Team USA. The American women’s team reached the championship game after beating Spain 76-66 in the semifinals in Berlin.
Stewart led Team USA with 16 points and six rebounds. The game also carried a personal connection for the veteran forward, as her wife, former professional basketball player Marta Xargay, previously played for Spain’s national team.
“There’s going to be a ton of emotions in this game, and it’s going to be the team that really kind of regulates that and handles that best that will have the advantage. … My team, we’re gonna be locked in,” Stewart said via Alexa Philippou of ESPN.

With Spain now out of the tournament, Stewart and Team USA can turn their full attention to the final. Team USA will face France in the gold-medal game, setting up a rematch of the 2024 Paris Olympics final. Team USA won that game by just one point.
France booked its place in the World Cup final after beating tournament hosts Germany 86-64, with WNBA star Gabby Williams helping lead the team.
The final gives Stewart another opportunity to add to her international career and help the United States continue its historic World Cup run. Team USA enters Sunday’s game on a 35-game winning streak in World Cup competition and is one win away from a fifth straight championship. A victory would also tie the record for the most consecutive World Cup titles.
With the tone now set for the one final clash with France, Team USA will play the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup final on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at 2:00 PM ET at Uber Arena, Berlin, Germany.
