AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas is hosting three powerhouses this weekend on the Forty Acres: No. 1 Ohio State, ESPN College GameDay, and CELSIUS Energy Drinks.

On Friday afternoon, the Traveling CELSIUS Combine and the CELSIUS-led Run Clubs touched down on the South Mall by the UT Tower.
The CELSIUS Combine included a "racing the reaction wall" coordination test, a pull-up challenge, a vertical jump challenge, and a passing accuracy challenge. The run club group took off for a 5K run in downtown Austin.
After the two events, a Woodstock-esque EDM concert unfolded in the rain featuring DJ duo SIDEQUEST. Love Island Season 8 star and event special guest Caleb McDaniel had crowds begging him for selfies and chasing him all over campus.
Kirk Herbstreit’s recent endorsement deal with the industry-leading energy drink brand was part of a broader partnership with College GameDay. CELSIUS Energy Drinks and the College GameDay crew will be hitting campuses together all fall.
The goal is a noble one.
CELSIUS partnership with College GameDay, explained
Giancarlo Morena, the VP of Sports and Entertainment for CELSIUS Holdings Inc., told me the campaign’s primary purpose: to boost community by getting fit together.
“We want to get the students into the action of College GameDay,” Morena told me. “We have a partnership with College GameDay at a national level, so we want to bring that experience on campus and give the students a chance to participate, to be an athlete, and to get involved.”
Morena said the most rewarding part of this campaign, which was in Baton Rouge last week for Clemson-LSU, in Austin this week for Ohio State-Texas, and will be in Oxford, Mississippi, next week for LSU-Ole Miss, is the consumer connection.
“It’s the consumer connection we’re making on campus with students, what they think of us before the event compared to after the event,” Morena said.
“Obviously, we hope they like the product, right? That’s obviously something we’re looking for, but I think it’s how we’re making that connection with the consumer, especially the students here.”
There were several standout athletic performances at the CELSIUS Combine. Olajide, a six-foot-six UT student, stole the show by recording a 29-inch vertical leap.
The New Jersey native called the event a “very healthy” cause.
“I think it’s very cool for (CELSIUS) to interact with college students and get them motivated to be fit. It’s very healthy. It’s been amazing,” Olajide said.
With a hardworking and accommodating crew that spent hours in the sun, on a day that peaked over 100 °F before the rain rolled in, CELSIUS laid the groundwork for a healthier Austin.
That might be an even more important result than a potential Longhorns win against the Buckeyes, though you’d be hard-pressed to find any Texas fan who’d admit that right away after knocking off the nation's No. 1 team.
