Red Wings' Dylan Larkin to report to training camp amid trade request

Detroit Red Wings center Dylan Larkin will report to training camp after making a trade request, he announced in a statement released by the team on Friday, Sept. 11.

"Over the past couple of weeks, Red Wings leadership and I have had several in-depth discussions," Larkin said. "I’ve appreciated those candid conversations, and I will be at training camp with my teammates. When new leadership is in place, we’ll talk further about the direction of the team. We will keep those conversations private, and I will keep my focus on the season ahead and on the guys in that room."
Larkin made the request this offseason after the team missed the playoffs for a 10th consecutive season. Trading him had been difficult because he had given the Red Wings only three teams to work with and the Red Wings wanted a big return. Plus Steve Yzerman stepped aside as general manager to transition into a senior adviser role.
What did the Red Wings say?
The Red Wings said in a statement they were looking forward to Larkin and his teammates showing up to training camp.
"Dylan is under contract as a member of the Detroit Red Wings," the team added. "Any conversations regarding his future with the club will take place privately when a new hockey operations leader has been named."
Will Dylan Larkin still be Red Wings captain?
The team said it would start the 2026-27 season without a captain being named.
"Any further discussions or decisions regarding this topic will be made once new hockey operations leadership is in place," the Red Wings said.
