The Atlanta Braves attempted to trade for Jacob deGrom ahead of the 2026 MLB trade deadline. deGrom ultimately invoked his no-trade clause to block the deal. What was not previously known is that Spencer Strider would have reportedly been included in the deal, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.
Feinsand recently published an article for MLB.com that mentions potential trade candidates for the upcoming offseason. Strider is among the players included in the story, and Feinsand dropped the report in the article.
“The Braves discussed sending Strider to Texas in a contract swap trade for Jacob deGrom before the Trade Deadline, and although deGrom blocked the deal with his no-trade clause, it’s clear that Atlanta is open to moving its former ace,” Feinsand wrote.

Strider is currently dealing with an elbow injury and may not pitch again this year. He was once considered to be one of the best pitchers in the game, but injuries have unfortunately impacted the right-handed hurler in recent years.
It remains to be seen how much interest Strider would even receive this offseason. He has not pitched in more than 30 games since the 2023 campaign. He did make 23 starts in 2025, but Strider appeared in just two games in 2024 and eight this season. It is also worth mentioning that he has turned in a 5.31 ERA in 2026.
Any interested team would have to hope that he can avoid injury while also bouncing back from a performance standpoint. While there is plenty of risk, the reward may be worth it. Strider led the league in strikeouts the last time he pitched in a full season back in 2022 with a mark of 281.
