Frances Tiafoe prevailed in a five set marathon US Open quarterfinal match against his friend and fellow American Alex Michelsen.

Michelsen was up two sets and serving for the match in the third set; however, Tiafoe started finding his shots and two hours later won the match.

Tiafoe admitted after the match that Michelsen could have won the match.
He could not hide his disappointment after the match.

Thrill of victory and agony of defeat
Michelsen will recover, but it does sting because he was also up a break in the fifth set. He broke Tiafoe in the opening game and was up 3-0.
It seemed inevitable that this match was going to a deciding ten-point tiebreaker at the 4 1/2 hour point.
