The Boston Red Sox gave their fans an entertaining Labor Day afternoon at Fenway Park. Jarren Duran and Adley Rutschman homered during a four-run second inning, while Brayan Bello kept the Los Angeles Angels off the scoreboard through five innings in Boston’s 5-2 victory Monday.

The win extended the Red Sox’s winning streak to five games and improved their record to 80-65. After completing a four-game sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, Boston immediately carried that momentum into the opener of its six-game homestand. Duran started the scoring by crushing a 425-foot solo home run to right field in the second inning. The blast was his 20th of the season and gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead.
Boston was far from finished.
Roman Anthony walked with one out before Isiah Kiner-Falefa drew another walk two batters later. Rutschman then delivered the biggest swing of the afternoon, launching a three-run home run to right field.
Rutschman’s 12th homer of the season pushed Boston’s advantage to 4-0 and gave Bello a comfortable cushion with which to work. The Red Sox added another run in the third. Caleb Durbin singled, moved to third on Kiner-Falefa’s base hit and scored when Eli White beat out an infield single.
Boston never needed another run.
Brayan Bello Keeps Angels Quiet
Bello worked around four hits and two walks over five scoreless innings. The right-hander struck out seven while throwing 103 pitches, earning the victory after entering the afternoon with a 5-7 record and 5.07 ERA. The Angels had chances against Bello but could not produce a timely hit. Los Angeles finished 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight runners.

Wyatt Olds replaced Bello in the sixth and allowed a solo home run to Moises Ballesteros. That was the only hit Olds surrendered during his two innings, and he struck out five without issuing a walk. Los Angeles added its second run against Angel Gamboa in the eighth when Christian Moore’s groundout brought home Wade Meckler. Garrett Whitlock handled the ninth and prevented the Angels from completing a late rally.

Duran finished 2-for-4 with a home run, double and RBI. Durbin and White also collected two hits apiece, while Rutschman drove in three of Boston’s five runs.
The Red Sox recorded nine hits and drew five walks against Angels pitching. They went 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position after encountering some offensive struggles during their weekend series in Baltimore. Monday’s win offered an ideal beginning to an important week at Fenway. Boston received power from two key hitters, an effective start from Bello and another solid performance from its bullpen.
The Red Sox and Angels will continue their three-game series Tuesday night at Fenway Park.
