FSU Volleyball Beats Ranked Kansas but Loses to Lipscomb

The Florida State volleyball team went 1-1 at the LUV Invitational beating No. 16 Kansas 3-2, and losing to Lipscomb 1-3. The tournament was played in Nashville TN, at Allen Arena.

Unranked Florida State (3-2), came into this tournament with wins against VCU and FGCU in 2026. For first-year coach Lindsay Allman, the focus is getting her team back in the postseason, a place Florida State has not been since 2024.
Allman takes over as head coach after serving as an assistant head coach for Florida State for the last four seasons. Allman takes over for longtime coach Chris Poole who went 405-171 while leading Florida State for 18 seasons. Poole led Florida State to 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, and the 2011 Final Four while at the helm.
Florida State staged a fierce comeback against Kansas after winning the first set 26-24 and losing the next two sets 21-25, and 19-25. Florida State won the fourth and fifth sets 28-26, and 15-13.
Senior outside hitter Kylee Filimaua led an aggressive Florida State offense with 23 kills and a .362 hitting percentage. Filimaua also had 16 digs showing a high skill set not just on offense, but on defense as well. Sophomore middle blocker Nenu Kpea added a career-high 17 kills to go along with being dominant defensively.
Junior libero Maile Chan led all players and posted a career-high 17 digs.
Against Lipscomb coach Allman’s team showed fight after dropping the first set 23-25. Florida State won the second set 25-13, but lost the third and fourth sets 18-25 and 23-25.
Junior middle blocker Delaney Ewing led Florida State with 12 kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Filimaua had a double-double posting 15 digs and 11 kills. Chan led Florida State with 18 digs.
Lipscomb finished the match with 54 kills compared to Florida State's 51 kills. Florida State had a .228 hitting percentage compared to Lipscomb's .226 hitting percentage.
Florida State will now turn its attention to the second annual ACC-SEC Showdown at the Net, to be played on September 8. Florida State will take on Auburn in what will be the first of a six-game home stretch.
Auburn is 3-2 with wins over Liberty, ETSU, and Akron. They return All-SEC outside hitter Lauren Dreves, middle blocker Kate Mansfiels (147 total blocks in 2025), and transfer portal addition Anastasija Ivkovic, who comes from UCLA with tremendous experience and scoring ability.
