Football player sends teammate playing better to hospital with brain bleed

An NCAA football player has been kicked off the team and could face charges after allegedly sending a teammate to hospital with a brain bleed.

Jacob Fields was removed from the Texas Christian University football team, according to an arrest affidavit, per NBC Dallas Fort Worth .
The affidavit alleges Fields, a safety new to the team, approached wide receiver Dozie Ezukanma in the locker room on Aug. 13 and punched him in the forehead and kicked him in the head while he was looking at his phone.
Ezukanma suffered a brain bleed, concussion and strained AC joint, the affidavit said.
Ezukanma told authorities he thought Fields attacked him because he was “playing better than him in practice the day before.” He added, “They had been going hard at each other since the start of camp.”
The affidavit said Ezukanma showed police texts Fields sent him afterward expressing remorse.
“I made an emotional decision cause of how I felt I played the last few practices,” said one text.
“Wish I could take all this back. I’ll pay every hospital bill and then some to make this right.”
Ezukanma spent three days in hospital, but reporters said he is recovering well and hopes to return to football.
“The only thing he wants to do right now is be on the field. So he just needs to get cleared. And when that happens, he is going to have an amazing season,” Ezukanma’s sister, Emelie Ezukanma, said. “What I want now is really accountability.”
TCU is investigating.
PM3 Sports, a representative for Fields, said in a statement, “Jacob has legal counsel and will allow the legal process to run its course. There will be a time to speak. There will be a time for the facts, and there will be a time for the truth.”
Fields played two seasons at Louisiana Tech, where he led the team in tackles and defensive touchdowns in 2025.
Ezukanma made two catches as a freshman at TCU last year.
