The 2026 college football season opens in less than a week, but LSU Tigers coach Lane Kiffin and his recruiting staff have faced backlash lately for their schemes. Over this past offseason, the Tigers have pursued former NFL rookies seeking a fifth year of college eligibility. This has sparked onlookers to disagree with Kiffin and the Tigers, as their methods are deemed unfair.

On Monday, Aug. 31, Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney chimed in on the LSU and Kiffin recruiting drama by joking around about one of his former players. Swinney recently faced the media, and in a post by Clemson insider Chapel Fowler on X, he joked that he and his recruiting staff could try to bring back former Clemson RB Adam Randall if he were waived by the NFL.
“He’s playing for the Ravens now. Maybe if they would’ve waived him, we could’ve gotten Adam (Randall) back. That would’ve been nice,” Swinney was quoted as saying.

Randall played all four years of his college career for Swinney’s Clemson Tigers from 2022 to 2025 and became one of the program’s premier products of the decade. He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the 174th pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, Randall has yet to suit up for the Ravens after being placed on the injured reserve list.

Adding to the drama, Dabo Swinney poked fun at Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers. The two coaches will face each other to open their respective 2026 campaigns. In another report by Chapel Fowler, Swinney was asked what the most crucial factor is for the Clemson Tigers in preparing for LSU. Swinney answered that it’s all about managing their own emotions.
“All we need are some clowns and elephants. This is a d**g circus, man. You can’t make it any bigger … but it’s not about emotion. It’s about execution,” Swinney said.

Clemson and LSU are set to face each other on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the latter’s home stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
