Odell Beckham Jr. making the Giants is one of the coolest stories of the NFL season
· Yahoo Sports
When Odell Beckham Jr. was asked during the New York Giants’ last preseason game what it would mean to make the roster, he had a heartfelt response.
"It would mean everything," Beckham said during the Giants' broadcast. "It would be my dream. This is where I started. There's no place I want to give my whole heart to, more than anything else in the world, is this place right here."

Beckham and the Giants have officially come full circle. Beckham made the 53-man roster, according to reports, giving the 34-year-old Beckham a chance to finish his career where it started. Beckham might not have a huge impact on the offense, especially not like he did his first few seasons with the team, but it’s a great story to have one of the most charismatic athletes of the past 15 years back in New York.

But after being out of football in 2025, following unsuccessful seasons with the Ravens and Dolphins the two years before, Beckham showed enough to make the team.
Beckham had an up-and-down preseason. He made seven catches for 76 yards, and it would have been even better if Jameis Winston hadn't overthrown Beckham after a great move to get wide open deep downfield in the preseason finale. But he also also dropped a pass in the end zone in the Giants' second preseason game and in the finale he had a pass go off his hands for an interception.
Nevertheless, Giants coach John Harbaugh endorsed Beckham after the preseason finale.
"He has done enough to make an NFL roster, for sure," Harbaugh said after the preseason finale. "He's played well. He's gotten better as camp's gone along. He deserves credit for that. He's done a really good job with it."
Like Allen Iverson going back to play with the Philadelphia 76ers, Randy Moss spending a few games with the Minnesota Vikings years after he was traded, Rickey Henderson going back to the Oakland A’s at age 39 or Dwayne Wade finishing up his career with the Miami Heat, the nostalgia of Beckham being back on the Giants is off the charts.
Beckham was a first-round pick and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year with the Giants in 2014. He became one of the biggest stars in sports, and will forever be known for a one-handed catch he made at MetLife Stadium, considered one of the greatest plays in NFL history.
In 2019 Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns and never quite recaptured the form he had during his Giants career. He was a key part of the Los Angeles Rams' 2021 championship team, catching the first touchdown of Super Bowl LVI. He also tore his ACL in that Super Bowl, and didn't play at all the next season. He hasn’t been much of a factor since that injury.
Maybe Beckham’s entire career would have turned out differently if he never was traded from the Giants. There’s no way to know. But Giants fans get another chance to cheer him before he exits the NFL. There won’t be many better stories than that this season.
