The veteran forward earned his 100th Test cap at the Cape Town Stadium, becoming only the 11th Springbok to reach the prestigious milestone.
In addition, he became the first Springbok centurion to beat the All Blacks in his 100th Test.

Prior to Du Toit ‘raising his bat’ against the All Blacks, all of Percy Montgomery, John Smit, Jean de Villiers and Damian de Allende had faced New Zealand in their 100th Tests – and lost.
The two-time World Rugby Player of the Year has already established himself among South Africa’s greatest players – and victory over New Zealand on his milestone appearance added another unique achievement to his remarkable international career.

Next in line?
Attention now shifts to the next player in line to join the ‘100 Test club’.
That appears to be a two-player race between centre Jesse Kriel and hooker Malcolm Marx.
Kriel has 92 Test caps to his name, while Marx has one fewer (91).
Both are regulars in the Springbok set-up suggesting there’s no reason they won’t become the 12th and 13th centurions – but in what order?
With the Springboks only scheduled to play seven more Tests in 2026, the duo will in all likelihood have to wait for mid-2027 to join the illustrious list.
Springbok Test centurions
Percy Montgomery became the first ever Springbok centurion on 16 August 2008 when he started at fullback against the All Blacks at Newlands, a stone’s throw away from his alma mater, SACS.
The Springboks lost 19-0.
John Smit was the second Springbok to play 100 Tests when he captained the side on 21 August 2010 against the All Blacks at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
The Springboks lost 29-22.
Jean de Villiers was the fifth Springbok Test centurion on 13 September 2014.
De Villiers’ 100th Test came against the All Blacks at the then Wellington Regional Stadium in Wellington, a match the Springboks lost 14-10.
Damian de Allende became the 10th Springbok centurion on 22 August 2026 against the All Blacks at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.
The Springboks lost the match 33-16.
Pieter-Steph du Toit became the 11th and most recent Springbok centurion on 29 August 2026 against the All Blacks at the Cape Town Stadium in Cape Town.
The Springbok won the match 33-26, creating a piece of history for Du Toit as he became the first player to beat New Zealand in their 100th Test.
