Bengal: FIR filed against Mamata Banerjee for ‘violating’ HC order during TMC student wing event

The Kolkata Police has registered a first information report against West Bengal’s former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly violating the Calcutta High Court order regarding the Trinamool Congress’s student wing foundation day event, reported The Hindu on Saturday.

The case was registered on Friday after Mamata Banerjee’s supporters allegedly blocked both flanks of Cathedral Road, where the event was held, disrupted traffic and continued the programme beyond the permitted time, reported The Indian Express.
On Tuesday, the High Court allowed both factions of the Trinamool Congress to hold the Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad’s foundation event, specifying that movement of vehicles should not be stopped along one flank of the road, reported PTI.
Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya allowed the Mamata Banerjee-led faction to hold the event on Cathedral Road, while the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel group was granted permission for Rani Rashmoni Avenue. A maximum of 1,500 persons were to be allowed in the events, supposed to be held between noon and 3 pm on Friday.
The FIR against Mamata Banerjee was registered on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Apu Baidya of Hastings Police Station.
