Nepal flood: 10 bodies recovered from Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh

Ten bodies have been recovered from the Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj and Kushinagar districts in the past two days following the flash flood in Nepal, The Indian Express reported on Saturday.
The Gandak, also known as the Narayani in Nepal, flows from Nepal into India before joining the Ganga.
The deceased are yet to be identified.
All the deceased were adults and believed to be Nepalis, The Indian Express quoted unidentified officials as saying. The bodies have been kept at mortuaries in Maharajganj and Kushinagar for 72 hours, they added.
“If no one comes forward during the 72-hour period, further action will be taken in accordance with government guidelines,” the newspaper quoted Maharajganj Additional District Magistrate Prashant Kumar as saying.
The Gandak also swept away several other objects, including vehicles, household items, gas cylinders, drums, furniture, logs and other debris, which have been washing up along its banks.
The toll in the flash flood and mudslide in Nepal increased to 616 on Saturday. More than 2,400 persons were missing, the country’s disaster management authority said.
More than 4,400 persons had been rescued, Prime Minister Balendra Shah said.
