Dodgers Swept by Braves as Concerns Against Top Teams Grow

The Los Angeles Dodgers lost 1-0 to the Atlanta Braves, dropping their third straight game and ending up falling short to another World Series contender.

The Dodgers lost three close games to the Braves, seemingly struggling to produce any answers or win a trademark game that they usually do.

Now, the Braves are only three games back of the Dodgers for the second seed in the National League.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers failed to pass a test against a good team.

The offense falls short… again

The Dodgers only got five hits and drew no walks, other than two hits by a pitch. They failed to score when there were a few runners in scoring position, going 0-for-3 and stranding a total of seven baserunners.

Mookie Betts was the only hitter to get more than one hit, and Ben Rortvedt, Miguel Rojas, and Freddie Freeman were the only other batters to get something off the board.

Braves pitcher Chris Sale was totally locked in, totaling only 11 strikeouts and giving the Dodgers total fits, even after deploying a righty-heavy lineup.

Yamamoto’s wasted start

The Dodgers did not make the most of Yamamoto’s gem, in which he threw 6.1 innings and allowed just one run.

The Japanese starter got eight strikeouts and threw an elite mix, but like most of the season, the offense didn’t provide enough run support.

His only mistake came against the first hitter, when he threw a splitter that Drake Baldwin got ahold of.

Other than that, his command was sharp, and he threw a large variety of pitches. He proved to be the Dodgers’ ace, but in the end, it didn’t matter that he delivered and the bullpen produced 1.2 innings of good work.

The Dodgers head to Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers, where they will look to get some confidence at the plate.
