Goretzka signs for Aston Villa after long wait for club

Germany midfielder Leon Goretzka has joined Aston Villa having been a free agent since leaving Bayern Munich on July 1.
"When you need an engine, trust German," the Birmingham club wrote on Instagram on Thursday about the signing of the 31-year-old. Europa League winners Villa did not provide details on the length of the contract.

He left Bayern after eight trophy-laden years, including the Champions League in 2020.
Goretzka was repeatedly considered a sale candidate by Bayern but continued to hold his own in the star-studded squad.
However, it was not enough for a contract extension this time and in January the German record champions announced he would be leaving.
He was linked with clubs such as Barcelona, Juventus, Arsenal, Napoli and AC Milan in recent months but ends up at Premier League Villa, who have sold many of their best players despite being in the Champions League.
