CJP Worker Allegedly Slapped At Jodhpur Event, Clash Breaks Out With ABVP-BJYM Members

Jaipur: Days after a violent confrontation between Cockroch Janta Party (CJP) workers and villagers in Jaipur, a CJP worker was allegedly slapped by a BJP youth wing BJYM worker during a CJP event in Jodhpur on Sunday late in the evening. The incident triggered a confrontation between CJP workers and members of the ABVP and BJYM.

Clash at CJP event

The police said that the "Education Save, Country Save” dialogue organised by CJP was underway at the Gandhi Shanti Pratishthan when some people allegedly associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) attempted to enter the premises by jumping over the boundary wall.

The development led to a scuffle between CJP and ABVP-BJYM workers, and a CJP worker was allegedly slapped. The police personnel deployed at the venue intervened to prevent the confrontation.

Police detain eight workers

Following the incident, the police had detained eight ABVP and BJYM workers, who were released after interrogation late at night. The SHO of the concerned police station, Zulfiqar, said that the workers were taken into custody under Section 172 of the BNS and were released after interrogation.

No formal police complaint has been registered regarding the incident.

CJP responds to incident

The CJP's co-convener and spokesperson, Ashutosh Ranka, attended and interacted with participants on education and youth issues; however, police did not grant permission to the CJP for another proposed student dialogue at Shastri Circle Garden, and Ranka was sent back to Jaipur under police protection.

Reacting to the incident, Ranka said on social media that CJP's fight for better schools will continue despite all such incidents.

“They will continue to resort to violence and vandalism. The CJP will always maintain peace. And we will not stop our fight for better schools. But our resilience shouldn’t be mistaken for being weak. We believe in Gandhi, but we also worship Bhagat Singh,” said Ranka on X.
