Mumbai Police Help 6,096 Cyber Fraud Victims Recover ₹3.97 Crore Through Money Restoration Module

The Mumbai police have facilitated the return of Rs3.97 crore to 6,096 cyber fraud victims in two months through the Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and the Money Restoration Module (MRM), while Rs18.27 crore involved in 24,860 cases was blocked during the period.

The police said financial and judicial scrutiny found Rs16.18 crore of the blocked amount eligible for refund, of which Rs3.97 crore has already been transferred directly to victims’ bank accounts. Restoration of the remaining eligible amount has been initiated.
The MRM was developed by the Mumbai police following direction from the Centre to ensure immediate blocking of money involved in cyber fraud and streamline its return after required legal formalities.
Golden hour reporting helps freeze funds
The police said quick reporting during the crucial “golden hour” through helpline 1930 enables them to coordinate with banks and freeze funds before they are moved to other accounts.

The Grievance Redressal Mechanism portal received 2,337 complaints in the past two months, of which 2,169 were resolved.
The police urged victims to immediately call 1930 and preserve bank details, UTR numbers, WhatsApp chats, screenshots and records of suspicious calls to aid investigation and recovery.
