The New York Yankees have been dealing with a few major injury issues this season, with Cody Bellinger, Max Freid, Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Aaron Judge all missing extended time.
But one of the other injury issues revolves around Giancarlo Stanton. The veteran slugger has been on the injured list for most of the season, last playing on April 24.
Now, amid a recovery from a calf issue, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com is reporting Stanton has strained his other calf and is going to miss even more time for the Yankees, potentially the rest of the season.
Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton suffers potentially season-ending setback
"Giancarlo Stanton strained his other calf," Hoch reports. "He fell while running. Moderate grade strain, Aaron Boone said. He may be out for the season."
This is an absolutely brutal update for the Yankees and Stanton. He was ramping up his recovery, and while there were some minor setbacks and pauses, he was still working his way back.
But now, after this fall and calf strain, it's looking more likely that Stanton will be out for the remainder of the regular season, and potentially all of the postseason as well.
Before his injury, Stanton was hitting .256 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 24 games played. His .724 OPS wasn't anything special, but it was positive offensive contributions from a key slugger on the team.

His absence, alongside Judge and Bellinger, has made this offense one that's really struggled at times this season. That's why they acquired Heliot Ramos and Luis Garcia Jr. at the trade deadline.
But the hope was still for Stanton to come back and provide some powerful upside to the Yankees lineup. He was working his way back, but now he's likely missing a lot more time.
Boone didn't outright declare Stanton is out for the season, but this setback could be season-ending, as his fall and subsequent calf strain could be the injury issue that ends his 2026 season.
