The EPL, Ligue 1, and Serie A all kick off their seasons this weekend while the English Championship and Dutch Eredivisie are in their second weekend (apologies). La Liga kicked off over the last week as well and this weekend feature a potential head-to-head matchup though both players would be seeing their first significant action of the season. Without further delay, let’s get to the matches of the weekend:

Friday

Olympique Marseille v Strasbourg — 2:45p on beIN Sports: Tim Weah and Marseille will kick off their season against Strasbourg and newly arrived Gio Reyna on Friday afternoon. Marseille finished last season in fifth place in Ligue 1 while Strasbourg ended in eight place. Both players have seen time with their clubs this offseason and should be available for action on Friday.

Arsenal v Coventry City — 3p on USA Network: Coventry city get their welcome back to the Premier League, facing off against defending champions Arsenal, but Haji Wright is expected to miss up to 12 weeks to start the season as he recovers from a quad injury.

Saturday

Nottingham Forest v Leeds United — 10a on Peacock and NBCSN: Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United finished last season in 14th in the Premier League, eight points removed from the relegation spots but also just six points out of a top eight finish and qualification for European tournament competition. They will kick of their 2026-27 campaign by taking on Nottingham Forest who fell to 16th place last season after finishing in seventh the prior year.

Everton v Crystal Palace — 10a on USA Network: Chris Richards and Crystal Palace will start their season on Saturday afternoon against Everton. Palace finished last year in 15th while Everton were four points ahead of them in 13th place. Richards should be in the lineup on Saturday while newly arrived teammate Zavier Gozo seems unlikely to break through quickly though he will be one to keep an eye on.

Blackburn v Middlesbrough — 10a on Paramount+ : Sebastian Berhalter was the lone member of the US trio in Middlesbrough’s lineup last weekend as they started their season with a 2-1 win over newly promoted Lincoln City. Max Arfsten, who transferred from the Columbus Crew this summer, came in as a second half substitute for Boro while Aiden Morris was held out due to injury. Middlesbrough will now travel to Blackburn to take on the Rovers who drew with Wolverhampton last weekend.

Toulouse v Lyon — 2:45p on beIN Sports: Tanner Tessmann and Lyon will kick off their Ligue 1 season against Toulouse this weekend. Lyon finished in fourth place last season and have been already been playing competitive matches as they look to work their way through Champions League qualifying, most recently drawing with Fenerbahçe 1-1 on Tuesday in Türkiye. This isn’t a head to head match this season as Mark McKenzie has moved on from Toulouse to return to Philadelphia.

Parma v Cagliari — 2:45p on CBSSN and Paramount+: Benji Cremaschi was able to parlay his loan from Inter Miami to Parma into a full transfer this offseason and will be looking to improve on the 2025-26 campaign that saw the club finish in 13th place. Unfortunately, Cremaschi is likely out this weekend due to an injury and will miss the team’s home opener as they host Cagliari.

MLS Season Pass Matches:

  • Charlotte v DC United — 7:30p: Tim Ream
  • New York Red Bulls v Chicago Fire — 7:30p: Adri Mehmeti and Julian Hall for NYRB, Chris Brady for the Fire
  • FC Cincinnati v Seattle Sounders — 7:30p: Cristian Roldan
  • Austin v Philadelphia — 8:30a: Cavan Sullivan and Frankie Westfield

Sunday

PSV v Groningen — 8:30p on ESPN+: Sergino Dest assisted Ricardo Pepi last weekend in PSV’s first win of the season, a 2-1 win over Excelsior. The result came a week after PSV opened their season with a 2-2 draw against Fortuna Sittard, a match which Dest missed due to yellow card suspension. Both Dest and Pepi were in the starting lineup last weekend and seem likely to start again as PSV host Groningen.

Manchester City v Bournemouth – 9a on USA Network: Tyler Adams and Bournemouth finished last season in sixth place, earning Europa League qualification and will open their new EPL campaign on the road against second place Manchester City who start a new era under the leadership of Enzo Maresca.

Atletico Madrid v Villarreal — 11:00a on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes: Johnny Cardoso was an unused substitute for Atletico Madrid as they started their season on Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Malaga. Atleti will be hosting Villarreal where Alex Freeman saw a couple minutes off the bench in his team’s 2-2 draw with Racing which was on Monday.

Le Havre v Monaco — 11:15a on beIN Sports: Folarin Balogun and Monaco finished last season in seventh place and will open up the season against Le Havre. There have been rumors swirling around Balogun with several EPL clubs showing interest which could impact his usage this weekend, but at least for now he is with the Monaco side.

Frosinone v Juventus — 12:30p on Paramount+: Weston McKennie and Juventus will open their season on the road against Frosinone on Sunday afternoon. Frosinone finished in second place in Serie B last season to gain promotion to Serie A while Juventus settled for a disappointing sixth place finish that saw them qualify for Europa League rather than the Champions League.

Venezia v Lecce — 12:30p on Paramount+: Last season’s Serie B winners were Venezia, thanks in large part to Gianluca Busio who makes his return to Serie A with the club. Venezia will host a Lecce side that were just four points removed from relegation last season but Venezia will have a lot of work to do this season to improve on their last campaign in Serie A in the 2024-25 season when they won just five matches.

Torino v AC Milan — 2:45p on Paramount+: Christian Pulisic has returned to training and could be available off the bench this weekend as Milan open their season against Torino. Also returned is Yunus Musah whose loan to Atalanta last year was anything but a success but is apparently slated to remain at Milan this season and play a role with the club.

MLS Season Pass Matches:

  • New England Revolution v NYCFC — 4:30p: Matt Turner v Matt Freese
