Yesavage already throwing again

Yesavage resumed throwing from flat ground Tuesday at the Blue Jays’ player development complex in Dunedin, Florida. The 23-year-old underwent meniscus surgery on his left knee one week ago, so getting back to throwing this quickly is certainly an encouraging development.

The Blue Jays aren’t rushing him back, but Yesavage will continue working through his recovery with the goal of eventually returning to game action late in the season.

That doesn’t guarantee he’ll make it back, and there is still plenty of work to do before he can take the mound in a major league game. His progression and how his knee responds as his workload increases will ultimately determine whether a return is realistic.

Huge potential addition for Toronto

Yesavage has already shown how valuable he can be to the Blue Jays.

Before suffering the knee injury, he went 5-5 with a 3.65 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 93.2 innings, striking out 91 batters across 18 starts. He also played a major role in Toronto’s postseason run in 2025.

The timing of his potential return could be enormous. Toronto is right in the middle of a tight American League playoff race and has a great chance to get in as a Wild Card team if they keep playing good baseball.

The Blue Jays have dealt with several pitching injuries, so getting Yesavage back for the final weeks of the season could provide a major boost.
