Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark’s impact on the WNBA cannot be overstated. Since her arrival as the number one overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, the league has shattered its old in-game attendance and television ratings records, which in turn have paved the way for a transformational new collective bargaining agreement for the league and rapid franchise expansion.

However, it’s also true that the league has been on an upward trajectory for some time now, even if Clark did help it enter a new stratosphere. Just don’t tell that to Outkick’s Dan Dakich.

“Caitlin Clark came along, and once Caitlin Clark came along, you became a real league,” Dakich said in a video on social media, addressing Fever legend Tamika Catchings.”

“But now you got big eyeballs and you don’t want the big eyeballs,” he continued. “Where were you 30, 20, 10, five years ago? Not watching. But guess what? Because of Caitlin Clark, you became a real league.

“And guess what? Now people are watching. And guess what? You and your friends have been exposed as racist, sexist,  and frankly, full of crap. You should have stayed as a minor league. You should have never drafted Caitlin Clark. You should have told us Juju Watkins is the next great thing. Or you should have told us Paige Beckers is the next great thing. And you know what we’d have done? We’d have kept not watching.

But all of a sudden, you got one of us. You got a girl that just busted her *ss to play basketball. You got a heterosexual white girl that just busted her ass to play basketball and is better than anybody. And more importantly, is different. She’s relatable. Kinda cute. She shoots from areas people have never seen. She passes the basketball. She looks like Pete Maravich playing, literally and physically, out there. So now we’re paying attention.”

On Sunday, Dakich doubled down.

“Before Clark? Nothing, nada, zip, zilch, and it makes racists crazy,” he posted on X.

What Dakich and others who attempt to disparage the WNBA realize is that just because they weren’t interested in women’s sports doesn’t mean nobody was. Both men and women have been watching women’s sports, and that’s a trend that is only going to continue.
