Who can apply for the £7,000 Scholarship?
The scholarship is available to postgraduate taught offer holders who meet the eligibility requirements set by the University of Sheffield.
Applicants must be permanent residents of, or have lived in, one of the eligible countries or regions for the three years immediately preceding the start of their studies.
Students must also be self-funded and classified as overseas students for tuition fee purposes. The programme must be studied full-time and in its entirety at the University of Sheffield.
Students from the University of Sheffield International College (USIC) are also eligible, subject to the other conditions of the scholarship.
No separate application required
One of the key features of the scholarship is that eligible students do not need to fill out a separate scholarship application.
However, applicants must accept their postgraduate taught offer from the university by 4 pm UK time on July 6, 2027 to be considered for the award.
Students who are also taking a pre-sessional English course must accept both the postgraduate offer and the pre-sessional course offer.
The university has also clarified that if a student accepts an initial offer before the deadline and later accepts an offer for a different programme, they can still remain eligible for the scholarship, provided they continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
Courses not covered under the Scholarship
The £7,000 tuition fee reduction does not apply to every postgraduate programme. Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) courses are excluded.
The scholarship is also not available for:
Crossways courses
Erasmus Mundus courses
Online or distance-learning programmes
Programmes split between the University of Sheffield and a partner institution
Postgraduate courses where a higher clinical fee applies
Compulsory or optional years in industry or study abroad
Other programmes specifically excluded under the university's scholarship terms
MArch programmes, however, are treated as postgraduate taught programmes for scholarship purposes and are eligible, subject to the other conditions.
Two-Year Master's Programmes
Students enrolling in a two-year master's programme can receive the £7,000 scholarship in the second year, provided they successfully complete the first year of study.
The award does not cover compulsory or optional industry or study-abroad years that form part of a programme.
Students should also note that the scholarship cannot be deferred. If an applicant postpones their entry to another year, the award will be forfeited.
Important Information For Indian Students
The scholarship could reduce the tuition fee burden for Indian students planning to pursue a postgraduate taught degree in the UK. Students, however, are still required to satisfy the academic and admission criteria of the university and take into consideration the living costs and visa costs that may arise while studying abroad.
