Max Eberl set to extend contract at Bayern Munich

According to reports from Sport Bild’s Julian Agardi and Christian Falk (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s five-member presidential committee has given the green light to extend Eberl’s contract beyond its current 2027 expiration. The final hurdle will come on August 25, when the club’s nine-member supervisory board is scheduled to meet and formally approve the new deal.

The details still need to be worked out. The length of the extension and Eberl’s salary will reportedly be part of the discussions, but the most important development is that the club’s leadership appears to have reached a consensus that Eberl should remain in his position.
That represents a significant vote of confidence in Bayern Munich’s sporting director. In addition, club president Herbert Hainer reportedly informed Eberl of the decision during the club’s Asia tour, meaning Eberl now has clarity about his future while continuing to oversee Bayern Munich’s sporting operation. Perhaps more importantly, Eberl appears to have strengthened his relationship with two of the most influential figures in Bayern Munich’s history — Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Over the past 80 days, Eberl has reportedly been in regular contact with both men, particularly regarding transfer matters. That level of communication was not always present previously, but it has apparently gone down extremely well with Hoeneß and Rummenigge and helped earn their support.
That relationship could prove just as important as any individual transfer.
Bayern Munich is entering a period in which continuity could be extremely valuable. Eberl has already helped shape the squad alongside Vincent Kompany and the rest of the sporting leadership, and an extended contract would give him more security to continue implementing his long-term vision.
Interestingly, the presidential committee has also backed an extension for CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.
If both extensions are ultimately approved, Bayern Munich would be signaling that it believes the current leadership structure is working and deserves more time.For Eberl, that is a major endorsement after a turbulent start to his tenure. Now he simply needs the supervisory board to make it official.
